General

The Silverstein Hebrew Academy's approach to General Studies is both comprehensive and integrated.

Reading and writing skills are merged to all curriculum areas which provide constant reinforcement of these critical skills.

The mathematics program focuses on sequential skill building and comprehension of number concepts and relationships.

In science, hands-on learning is used to help students understand the world around them and the scientific method in physical, life and earth sciences. Some of the study areas include plants, solar system, human body, weather and the environment.

The social studies program familiarizes the students with the world they live in from a historic, cultural and geographic point of view. Current events are an integral part of the social studies program as well.

Weekly coordinated physical education and music rounds out the curriculum at all grade levels.

Jewish Studies

Jewish studies are taught in a manner that is appreciated by everyone regardless of their level of observance. SHA is very proud of its strong Jewish studies (limudei kodesh) curriculum.

The Jewish studies program includes: Chumash (Torah text) and Commentaries, Navi (Prophets, Ivrit (Hebrew Language), Parshat Hashavuah (an in-depth study of the weekly Torah Portion), Tefillah (Prayer), Dinim and Chagim (laws and Jewish holidays). SHA provides individualized instruction for students who require assistance to bring their Judaic studies to the appropriate level.

Technology

Technology plays a strong supportive role at SHA. Administration relies on email communication for fast, efficient and direct communication with the parent body and the general community. For the students, computer stations are available in every classroom to promote computer literacy.  With the aid of developmentally appropriate educational software, the computer is used for learning, research, language arts and creative writing.

Enrichment

Physical Education

A licensed instructor for Physical Education meets weekly. Age appropriate skills and games are introduced to challenge each age level and promote friendly interaction among peers.
